| White spots.
A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but I think I might know what's causing it. We have new sod. The sprinklers soak the ninebark leaves. Is that it? If so - or even if not - what should we do to save the plants? Thanks |

| A) Where are you located? B) Can you post a photo? C) Are the white spots on the leaf surfaces? Are they making the leaves rot, shrivel up or what? D) How hard is your water? In other words, does your water have lots of minerals in it? |
|
| (A) Zone 5. Northeast Iowa (B) Not real sure how, but I'll give it a try. (C) Spots are on the leaf surfaces. A few have shriveled, but not many. (D) Pretty sure we have hard water. 2 plants in question are CenterGlows. There are also 2 SummerWines that receive the same amount of spray from the sprinklers, but they get more direct sun. No spots on them. Thanks |

| Consider powdery mildew. Google some sites for it and see if anything looks like yours. My Diablo's have had quite a bit of it this year. |

| I had some problems with my Diablo Ninebark this year. I took a clipping to my local nursery and they said it was mold, but I'm doubful. The leaves near the bottom of the shrub are kinda rust colored, not a powdery mold. Anyway, they sold me a bottle of 3in1. No change so far. |

| I also have a serious problem with fungus on a golden ninebark. I have used fungicides but without any improvement. I just bought a Diablo for another area. Hope this is not going to happen to this as well. |

| I took a leaf in to the nursery, and they said it was powdery mildew. My son has a couple ninebarks that have some white "globs" of stuff on them. The person at the nursery thought it might be something called scales. You can scrape a little of the white stuff off and see if there are bumps on the stem. If so, there's some kind of oil you can get to treat it. |

| Can anyone tell me why both of my summerwine ninebark's appear to be dying..They are 3 years olf and always healthy. This year half of each shrub appears to have small shriveled red leaves and they other half are budding as they should. Any suggestions would be helpful. |

| If it is not powdery mildew then google dogwood borer for symptoms of infestation and see if it matches your situation. Dogwood borers will attack Ninebarks. Hope this helps. Rhonda |
