Yeah, ads on the top, ads on the side, and pop-up ads weren't enough.

I saw a funny response in the Trees Forum. Iforgotitsonevermind wrote,

"I find the success of I village/ gardenweb inspiring. From such humble beginnings to becoming owned by a huge media conglomerate.
I nominate I-village for the grant so they can make the necessary upgrades to enable post editing and to defeat the back-button goblins once and for all."

Ha.. yea...something that is being touted this loud and broad means they're selling something.

RE: Shine a Light!

It's promoting a contest, for heaven's sake........what exactly are they selling??

 o
RE: Shine a Light!

most contests are born to create mailing lists. Then they sell them.

I thought any form of promotions are not allowed as postings. Who can we complain to?

I wonder if this will generate other people promoting things in posts. Hey, a precdedent has been set, right? THe downfall begins...

RE: Shine a Light!

At the very least they stopped adding links to advertising within our posts, that was really obnoxious. kt

Since the promotion is sponsored by iVillage, the owner of GardenWeb, and underwritten in part by NBC Universal, who in turn owns iVillage, I'd guess they can do whatever they want and place it however they want:-) And you always have the option of ignoring it entirely, just as you would any other post you are not interested in.
