 o
pale and sickly spirea

I am quite surprised to see a spirea suffering in this hot and dry summer. I've never seen one blink an eye at ANY weather condition. Most of the foliage is pale and some is a little spotted. I think a bit of it is missing too.

Since I noticed it struggling, I've been upping the watering (extremely unusual for a spirea too!), but no change. I don't see any signs of bugs (which doesn't preclude them I suppose). I am tempted to give it a shot of something to see if it perks it up.. a 10-10-10? Iron? (a/k/a miracid), compost tea? neem oil?

Besides Ken, who will say leave it alone...LOL... any other suggestions?

Only Kidding Ken... Plz respond.

RE: pale and sickly spirea

never fert a stressed plant.. IMHO

watering was the proper thing to do.. but it isnt going to heal the already damaged leaves ....

you are correct .. leave it alone.. and in a few weeks.. see if it puts out some new leaves that are in better shape.. though i wouldnt be surprised if they were smaller ...

i am in about 8 weeks of severe drought [and extremely high heat and humidity] ... whatever rain i have had.. has not even been enough to do anything but dampen the mulch.. not even close to wetting the soil below ...

almost ALL of my shrubs [and quite a few of the trees] are looking like what you describe ... and though they are bugging me endlessly ... i have little fear they will perish ....

the cool nights and hopefully wetter fall is just around the corner ...

and it comes back to having faith [you know it should be bullet-proof] ... and not killing it with too much love ...
