Hollies are dying. Heat related?

I have several different types of hollies, and all are in some form of distress, with 2 dead, to some with something that looks like a fungus. It seems to start with a brown spot in the middle of the leaf that progressively gets bigger. Finally the leaf will turn black, and drop. I have drip irrigation under the mulch, so I don't think it's from watering during the heat. I check several times a week to make sure they are not drying out, or staying too wet. Some are 8-10 yrs old, and others are just a couple of years old. All are having the same symptoms.
I am wondering if it's the heat wave we are in the middle of(I think it's topped 105 degrees every day for over a month). I didn't notice anything until a couple of weeks ago, but wasn't really looking.
Anyone have an opinion on whether the heat could be causing this problem, or have any other ideas. Sorry I have no pics. I will post some if it would help. Any advice or opinions will be appreciated. Thanks

where are you brad.. and how hot.. and when transplanted

and how much water are you providing..

and any other information.. including pix.. to give us something to speculate on ...

given proper water ... and presuming you arent on the equator.. i dont see why heat alone will kill all your holly ... make me think more along the lines of improper planting.. or improper watering ..

really guesswork here, but in my garden a perfectly healthy holly just
"curled up its toes" (as Dirr says)and died in the 3 days of 90, 98, and 105 temps. So did a well watered enkianthus. Record breaking for greater Boston, and an exceptionally unpleasant record.

I could only attibute the deaths to extreme heat. I'm also interested in others' thoughts.
