| I picked up one of these thinking it has an orange red fall color...nursery looked it up in Dirr's book.
After checking it out I see some sources say it has no fall color or undistinguished fall color. Curious if anyone has one and if they can comment on the fall color. If its nothing to write home about I might just get one of the many Carlesii cultivars. |
Follow-Up Postings:
| No fall color on the two I know of. but fabulous fragrance in spring. Same comment on V. carlesii cultivars that I'm familiar with. |
| Dang it, that is disappointing. Since I'm so impatient I picked one up and planted it since. Might have to give it the bump when I find a nice specimen of V. carlesii. |
| Never saw fall color on V. carlesii either is what I meant. |

| whaas: I'd have to call someone who pitched 'Cayuga' without growing it for multiple seasons - an ID10T. Look up its heritage - it is an USNA release from the incredible work of the late Dr. Don Egolf. Parentage that includes V. carlesii, 'Cayuga' exceeds anything that the common Koreanspice Viburnum could ever imagine being. Maybe you just don't deserve the exquisite and exalted ecstacy that 'Cayuga' endows - go ahead and relieve it of your misery. It will go to a better place: like the dozens loving life here at the Valley. |
| Come next October you may or may not have another one at your doorstep! Do you see fall color on your plants? |
| Whaas, I love 'Cayuga'. As an aside, so do the deer. I don't have this pic labeled, but I'm quite certain this was 'Cayuga' from 2009. Pic was taken 11/7.
I like the tones of the leaves where it's not so "in your face" color. I have it near Deutzia gracilis 'Nikko' which also gets a nice rosy tone along with a V. plicatum 'Popcorn'. |
