loropetalum purple pixie or any variety zone 6??

I really want to try growing these but I am afraid of the winters here... they are only hardy to zone 7 and up with the exception of one variety which I am not particularly fond of, but would try if it's as close as I can get to one of these great purple shrubs. Anybody have any experience with these in colder states?

Not hardy in USDA 8, let alone 7; not a chance in 6. Claims of hardiness in 7 must be based on idea that hardy to 10F = hardy to Zone 7. Or short term observation, rather than the many years a shrub would be expected to hold up.
