 o
Fine line Buckthorn - Size?

Posted by bellily 6 (My Page) on

Hi, I just bought 2 of these and was wondering for those people who have one of these, what is the current size. It said on the tag that it would get 7' high and 2-3' wide. However, I saw this tree on display (established) and it was 9' by 4'. If you don't trim this plant, does it grow these dimensions? Also, this will be planted in an area with lots of sun. Thanks in advance. Chris

Ian, thanks for the link. Sounds like these tags can range in width and height depending on where you are in the USA and how much sun it gets.

Thanks again. I live in St Louis, MO. If anyone has one of these plants, please let me know your experience....thanks!

Mine is about 1' wide and 5'-6' tall so far. It is 5 years old, but I had it in a container for a year or two, so it grew slower then.

My tag said 5-6'T x 5-6' wide. no way! ever!

Original plant when this was selected was 10'x4' if I recall correctly. Selected by Ron Williams of Green Bay, WI.

Wendyb...did you overwinter it in the container?

I saw a couple at Fordhook Farm (Burpee/Heronswood) in PA that were in a sheltered site by a building and they were at least over 10' tall (probably 12') and about 5-6' wide or so. I didn't ask how long they had been in. I was really surprised at how big they were.
