Juniper 'Blue Ice'

I just purchased a Juniper 'Blue Ice'. There was little else on the tag and the nursery person could tell me even less. It is a low growing style similar in habit to Juniperus procumbens 'Nana' (Japanese garden juniper). I'm looking for more information on the plant and the botanical name. A search of the web came up with nothing.

Well -if it is Icee Blue - Juniperus horizontalis `Monber` P.P.# 9639 - it's a great if not the best carpet juniper. Good blue color, smooth texture, very low growing, might be a tad slow growing in some situations. I have 6 or 7 and they are great plants.

The "Mon" in the name stands for Monrovia.

Here is a link that might be useful: ICEE BLUE® JUNIPER

any reason you dont like the folks over in the conifer forum ...

it is NOT a shrub... and you will never prune it as a shrub ...

regardless.. you got your answer.. i am just pointing out the difference in the WORDS..

good luck with your new plant....

Many do not know what "conifer" means.

Not sure where the notion of pruning has anything to do with the definition of a shrub :-) Being a conifer does not eliminate a plant from being grouped as a shrub as well - the term 'shrub' is only a description of a habit of growth. And this fits the horticultural definition as good as any other - 'a low growing woody plant with one or more stems and no clear trunk'. If you wanted to be really picky about the WORDS, this plant would be more correctly referred to as a groundcover.
