| I have a patio with a zelkova tree and a 6 foot wooden fence behind it. There are several lattices on said fence where the landscape designer thought some camelias could be trained. Said camelias have bit the dust. They seem to resent the dry shade of under the zelkova. Any thoughts for a good candidate for training on the lattices. We use the patio mainly May to October so evergreen is not necessary.
(I cross posted this on topiary forum.) Thanks. |

| Euonymous fortunei (some). Itea ilicifolia Podocarpus macrophyllus Viburnum burkwoodii Viburnum macrocephalum Viburnum plicatum plicatum These are all recommended for espalier by Sunset Western Garden Book and are for part shade. Should do ok in shade however. You'll have to look up the water needs. I may suspect you should stay away from Euonymous because it develops aphid problems under stress, e.g. shade/possibly drought.
