I have an Onondaga Viburnum that ( in September) has developed large - non shiny brown areas on the leaves. On the back side the spots are light tan and look velvety - I assume all this has to do with a fungus and is not a deficiency? This had viburnum beetles earlier in the year and I picked them off twice a day and still check the plant daily and have not seen any other insects eating the leaves, but there are more holes than I remember seeing when it had the beetles. This plant has not grown much since I bought it about 4 years ago, so my questions are: What do I do to get it to grow - I did fertilize it, perhaps not enough? - and am I correct that it has picked up fungus during this strange hot summer with better than average rain? I was thinking about moving it and also, at the same time cutting it way back hoping to stimulate growth as well as get rid of any beetles that may have laid eggs in the branches - good idea??.
