Plantings for Poor Soil

Hi,
I know there have been a few posts like this but I wanted a complete list of those that don't need organic fertilizer or rich compost added. I know most do not require any love but I like to treat some to a small annual spring feed to get them going. Below is my list of those who want to be left alone. Please let me know which ones you would add or remove. I know there are some that can be removed given a lot of info on the web can be misleading or incorrect. Sorry about the sloppy spelling, Latin/common/brand name mix...did this quickly. If you know any sites that have a complete listing, please advise. I am waiting for Ken to tell me to leave them alone ; ) Thanks!

i fed everything in great MI peat soil in suburbia ...

i feed NOTHING in mineral sand on 5 acres ,...

no difference noted at all ...

All plants grow better with sufficient nutrition. Fertility is, however, only one aspect. Soil pH, drainage or lack thereof, organic matter content, etc., etc. are also important. (For example, your list contains hellebore which needs a realtively limey soil and blueberry which needs a very acid one.) I don't think you're going to find a list of plants that you can pop into the ground anywhere then basically leave to their own devices. Your best first step would be to have a soil test done. Then you can narrow your choices down to those plants most likely to do well in your specific conditions.

Hellebores want lime??!! They sure don't get any here in my acid sandy soil, and they do great.

My hellebores also do great in our acid soil with no amendments. My attempt with blueberries was a dismal failure. Also good luck with liriope, hosta, dicentra-all the shade lovers you mentioned. Love my Serviceberry. We have heavy Virginia clay. Plants are on their own for the most part once I plant them. I do water during hot dry summer periods, though.
