Any small, full-sun, evergreen shrubs (that birds also like?)

After battling our hollies (that get 17 feet taller than we'd like them to), we finally are about to cut them down. I've been trying to go with mainly native plants, but I'm at loss for what I'd like to plant in front of my house (we are re-doing the entire bed, actually). Is there any bush that is evergreen, stays about 3' tall, and has either blooms in Spring or berries in Autumn?
I like Viburnums, but I'm not sure if there are varieties that stay short.
I'd like to stay away from Boxwoods, just because I simply find them boring.

Agarista populifolia 'Leprechaun', Kalmia latifolia 'Elf' if you can have shade after 2 pm, Vaccinium darrowii are some ideas.

I very much like Ilex glabra, the Inkberry, and there is one strange one with dull whitish berries called Ivory Queen. Usually the berries are black, and birds will take them. Pretty Boy is a neat, dwarf form, that never has berries, but there are several that are ideal, and grow in Sun.
