Hold on just a sec........."mock orange" is a common name applied to pittosporum as well. And they do not lose their leaves, although being evergreen and of thicker, tougher texture than the philadelphus, they tend not to burn if exposed to sunlight. In fact, they prefer it.

In zone 8, either plant is a possibility :-)

I think I've seen Pittosporum tobira 'Variegatum' with some burning.

It's philadelphus.

As expected. If it's P. coronarius 'Variegatus' you may get some browning during hot weather wherever you put it.
