What size are the crapes you want to transplant? Thinking of doing the same thing and will be interested in what others have to say.

I have had my best luck moving crapemyrtles in the spring. Either planting from a purchased container or transplanting an established crapemyrtle in fall usually results in severe die-back (or worse!) if the winter is harsh. I see you are in zone 5/6. My experience with this is in 6A. hortster

My plants are all on the small size - either dwarfs or single season growth - and most always experience winter stem kill but come back from the roots. Some are 12 years old and never fail to re-sprout. I was sort of leaning toward early spring myself, but wondered what others have experienced. Thanks Marshall

If you were in crapemyrtle country, with warmer temperatures, I'd suggest that this be done in the late fall/early winter. In your climate, I would wait until the spring, but before the buds begin to break.

Up north, late winter/early spring is best. Do it before the plant leafs out, but after the worst of the winter is past. I've moved a large one successfully that time of year.

Thanks for the comments - I'll wait till March Marshall
