shearing MIGHT trigger excessive new growth .. especially this time of year ... when it might not have time to harden off properly for winter .... so i would avoid the warm part of fall ...

it probably would not make a difference with a winter dormant plant ... presuming you have a winter where you can work outdoors ...

so yeah.. late spring.. to knock back some spring growth sounds good ... and again in late summer if need be ...

but of course.. that has nothing to do with PRUNING.. rather than shearing out anything broken or injured ...

i would defer to anyone who actually owns one.. lol .. i just didnt want you running out there this w/end.. w/o some kind of answer.. where the heck i everyone????

Thank you for making me laugh. You mention trimming in late spring. From what I've seen the boxwood bushes start pushing new growth as soon as we shake off winter. I'm in Toronto and our winters have changed. Fall weather comes later and winter is shorter. And I won't be doing anything to boxwood this weekend. I'm not shaping my boxwood, I'm no topiary expert all I want to do is reduce it a bit in size. It's getting too big and I'm the boss.
