| Just purchased a Merry Berry holly that is perhaps 3 feet tall. The tag said that these grow 6' by 3' wide. The info that the (reputable) nursery had in front said it will grow to 10-12' tall and 10' spread. It's going in a corner by the front porch, and obviously this affects my planting.
Most web sites give the smaller size, but a few give the larger size. Any thoughts on what this could grow to, five years from now and 15 years from now? (Honestly I'd love something that is 9 feet tall and 6 feet wide, in the middle...) Thanks! |

| every shrub.. has an annual growth rate .... they will grow at that rate ... just about as long as you care .... MOST size estimates are at 10 years .... and they continue to grow thereafter .... at the annual rate ... NOTHING magically stops at some given height or width... period ... with a shrub.. that would be when you start pruning.. or renovating ... frankly.. from what little info you gave.. it sounds like it will outgrow your allotted space.. in not all that long ... but i am not sure .... good luck ken

| Thanks Ken. I didn't know the age for the size on the tag -- although it makes sense, as I've seen other things listed as "size at 10 years." I think I will move it over by a foot or so. The holly is already a couple feet wide, and if they grow several inches a year then you are right, it will outgrow the space pretty quickly. |
