Would Vitex agnus-castus grow in your area? It is a shrub or a small tree and has fragrant blue flowers in summer that are similar to a butterfly bush flower. I have one in front that is more shrublike with multiple trunks/branches and the one in back that is looking more tree-like without any pruning. They are also drought resistant. Even with our very dry summer and little watering, mine never missed a beat. I love them!

Don't know how tall you want it to be or what shape you are looking for. Need to narrow down the possibilites as there are hundreds, maybe thousands. How close to the house are you planting it?

That does narrow it down just a bit. I'm really fond of evergreens -- especially broadleafed evergreens. Sounds a bit too sunny for a sasanqua camellia. Here are some evergreen ideas:

Bobby, saw the red twigged dogwood at Woody's last week. Check them out too. Also like the idea of the chaste tree, but you already have one across from you to enjoy.
