Overcrowded shrubs

Just plant An Itea "henry's garnet" next to "royal purple" smoke bush and "miss kim" lilac about 6ft away from both shrubs. Do you guys think that when they mature to size will they become too overcrowded? thanks for input

RE: Overcrowded shrubs

Purple leafed smoke bushes even in zone 6 experience a lot of winter die back and do much better as cut back shrubs. You don't get any "smoke", but you do get a spectacular flush of purple leafed new growth that can reach 8 feet in height. If you treat your Cotinus this way, you should have enough room; though Iteas sucker, the young suckers can be pulled back and cut out.

Iteas sucker a lot. I am removing mine from a foundation bed because it is now 3x wider than it was 6 years ago when it was first planted. I've decided on my small 1/4 acre property, I don't enjoy suckering shrubs.
