Loropetalum - cut too low - will it recover

The landscaper cut our loropetalum too low. Looks like a bunch of bare sticks on top. Will it recover?

I don't know if it will recover, but you are unlikely to have flowers next spring. It forms buds in the summer for the next year. This is one plant that doesn't need a lot of pruning since it has such a pretty shape. Normally, the advice is to remove single branches if you feel the need to prune. I don't have one-yet-so I can't tell you from experience, only from what I have read. Hope it comes back better than ever for you!

I don't know for sure either. But I'm guessing that, if there are any leaf buds at all on the remaining wood, they'll probably be sprouting before you know it. Especially there in Fl. I'd also look for sucker growth along side the main stem.

You could cut it to the ground and spray the stump with round up and it would be back gang busters next spring- as I have done to a lorapetulam hedge for 4 years. Some day I'll get serious with it.
So don't worry, it will be fine.
