Need all-season COLOR for long hedge 1/2 day sun

My husband and I have an 18 x 3 foot hedge of roses lining our driveway that isn't blooming well because it's just not getting enough sun. Sun is ok until about 1 pm. when the maple in the front starts to shade it somewhat.
So we will have to replace with something COLORFUL (would like all season if possible?) that can bloom in these conditions. Needs to be hardy (we get lots of snow)& not taller than 5 feet.

Does anyone have suggestions? I was considering Weigela My Monet (but only if the pink really stands out enough w/this amt. of sun) or possibly Viburnum Blue Muffin (if it's as good as it sounds?) Or possibly just some more dwarf barberry w/something else more interesting in between. I was HOPING to find something that bloomed or had berries for 2 seasons. I was thinking of euonymus Gold Splash or Coralberry Amethyst as possibilities.
I really hoped to keep the colors in the blue or dark pink/maroon range (house is blue, roof is maroon)....

I get so tired of seeing everyone's plain old hostas and plain green shrubs.

Hope it isn't an impossible quest.
Thanks!
Phyl

Fothergilla gardenii is a great native 3 season shrub and hardy to zone 5

Here is a link that might be useful: link

Pieris japonica 'Flaming Silver'. I got one last year and it is awesome. Seems to be a slow grower. variegation is colorful. Some variegated pieris are not as colorful (e.g. 'Little Heath'), but may still work for your purposes. The new growth coloration on Flaming Silver is the best part. Lasts a long time too. Mine is in sun til 1:00 too.

Well, as much as I like my Fothergilla, it has spring bloom and nothing until variable fall color. You might consider some of the Hydrangea paniculata cultivars like "Little Lamb', 'Tardiva', 'Pinky Winky',etc. and plan to cut them to stubs in the spring to keep them under 5 feet. (They bloom on new growth.) If you choose cultivars carefully, you can get bloom most of the summer, with dried blooms interesting through the winter.

V. 'Blue Muffin' tops 5 feet, is quite attractive to deer and requires a pollinator to get berries.

I would consider Double File Viburnum. It is a 3 season plant with outstanding flowers, dense attractive foliage, good berry production and rich fall color.

Mmmm. My doublefile viburnum--V. 'Shasta' is 8 ft tall and 15 ft wide.

Agreed. Doublefile will get big. Harry needs to read more carefully.

What style is your house, and what direction is your hedge? The old fashioned 'Annabelle' hydrangea is very hardy, the blooms turn from green to white to brown. 'Pee Wee' oakleaf hydrangeas have four seasons of interest, with their peely bark, but require a little more water. Clethra alnifolia 'Hummingbird' is a great plant, and has a pretty fragrance when in bloom. But these all have white blooms. For really long bloom time, and COLOR, nothing beats the Knockout roses, they're also tolerate some shade. I have the single pink ones in a west-facing bed, which gets full sun until the afternoon when they're shaded by the house, and then they get the setting sun.
