Is this a native clethra or some other shrub?

My niece sent me some pictures of this shrub and asked what it was. Apparently it naturalized on their property and has spread into colonies. They are quite large and attract butterflies. They live in southern Maryland. From my research, I think it may be clethra alnifolia but am not sure.

I would appreciate any comments and identification of the shrub, thanks.

Wow. That's about the nicest clethra I've ever seen -- and you say it is naturalized? It sure is a butterfly magnet, too -- I am jealous!
