Branch in the center of Forsythia looks silly.

Can I prune it down now that the shrub is about 75% purple, or should I wait til the shrub has lost its leaves?

The bush has the same size branches all over, except right in the middle where there's one branch that is new growth (new as in grew since planted in August) and it's 14 inches taller than the rest of the shrub. There was new growth all around the shrub, but it was just a few inches, but this one single branch grew right straight up in the air, way above the shrub. It looks silly. Plus it's still green; it's the only part of the shrub that hasn't even a hint of purple.

Should I cut it back so that it's the same size as the rest of the branches? Or should I just leave it alone?
