| Can I prune it down now that the shrub is about 75% purple, or should I wait til the shrub has lost its leaves?
The bush has the same size branches all over, except right in the middle where there's one branch that is new growth (new as in grew since planted in August) and it's 14 inches taller than the rest of the shrub. There was new growth all around the shrub, but it was just a few inches, but this one single branch grew right straight up in the air, way above the shrub. It looks silly. Plus it's still green; it's the only part of the shrub that hasn't even a hint of purple. Should I cut it back so that it's the same size as the rest of the branches? Or should I just leave it alone? |

| a pic would sure be nice.. but i think you are handicapped in that.. lol LEAVE IT THERE ... harvest some sticks off it in jan/feb.. put them in a vase.. and they will bloom in the house.. get out!!!! then.. after the rest blooms in spring.. enjoy such.. then cut that sucker out of there as close to the ground as you can get.. around 2 or 3 inches ... then take some 6 inch cuttings.. stick in a pot of damp media.. put under a plastic bag.. and root them ... remove plastic after a few weeks or so .. before the real heat of summer hits ... keep in shade ... why waste the flower potential??? ... a very general rule for flowering shrubs.. is enjoy the flowers.. prune immediately after ... ken |

| Here's the opposite POV, lol. I'd not hesitate for one second in removing a "silly " looking branch immediately. I'd cut it all the main stem. Today. |

| I have to ask...this coming from someone who contemplated shrub covers cuz they were just *so* cute? if ya don't like it, prune it. it's a forsythia. silly looking branches are it's nature. either accept them or prune them. |
