| We have about 4 Inkberry Hollies in our front yard, all about 4 or so years old.
They are getting a bit leggy. It's not too terrible right now, but I'd like to be a bit proactive here and stop it before it gets worse.... Are there any tips/instructions to help prevent the legginess? Thanks.

That is their growth habit. I planted KO roses in front of mine, to disguise their bare knees. HTH.

Thats what I figured would be one alternative if I couldnt prevent the legginess.....plant something in front of them.... My wife said that her mother's gardener clips out some of the branches of the holly to allow sunlight to get to the lower legs....anyone heard of doing something like that? mm

typical growth of inkberry holly. You can trim them one third to half way, and that helps to them fill in. Trimming them will not damage the plant. Doing this every other year will help keep them fuller. I would Do this in early spring

Do you happen to know if the cultivar is 'Shamrock'? Their claim to fame is supposed to be dense growth and less legginess.

I have grown inkberries for many years. They get leggy no matter what you do and in any conditions. They have other assets but bottom growth over time is not one of them.
