Illicium floridanum 'Alba' with Leaf Problem

| I have an Illicium floridanum 'Alba' that gets lots of light green spots/blotches covering most of the plant. The discoloration seem to occur more on older foliage than new growth. I've also noticed some leaf drop (throughout the summer). The plant seems to go back and forth between recovery and being sick. I know this isn't a lot of detail, but any ideas?
Sorry, but no pictures available right now. |

| I guess this post has been floating up on top long enough. If no one has ideas, I'll just let it sink down into the archive. |

| a picture might help a lot. Could be cultural problems. Tell us more about where it is planted ... in shade? competing tree roots? etc. |

| from personal experience with the species, i found it to be intolerant of drought. literature says "drought tolerant once established" but my plant never did look healthy. spots appeared on the leaves, looking a lot like the unsightly condition that red-tip photinia develops. i don't know if it was disease or lack of constant moisture but it gave up the ghost eventually. site was as recommended with partial shade. |
