Help with viburnum leaf beetle

Hello all! I'm hoping to get some suggestions on how to manage viburnum leaf beetle on a mature viburnum dentatum. Having looked at the Cornell management suggestions, I went out today to try and prune away egg-infested twigs, but...this is a huge shrub, easily 12ftx12ft, and going over the whole plant is going to be a enormous job. Realistically more than I have time to do (this is my parents' plant and I live 2 hours away and visit every couple of months). So I'm looking for alternatives.

I thought about cutting it to the ground - it would be a shame to lose the size, but scouting for future damage and applying other controls would be much, much easier. Worried that the plant will just up and die, though. It's been infested for a few years already, with the resulting stress.

Sooooo, help, please? Suggestions on how to save this shrub would be gratefully received.
