forsythia and fall color

| I am looking to put in a forsythia - with plenty of room to get big and retain its natural weeping habit. I have been noticing around the neighborhood that some are pretty nondescript in the fall, and some have a lovely bronze coloration. These are all huge shrubs, and my guess would be that the bulk of them (if not all) are just common forsythia rather than a new cultivar.
So my questions are: Is forsythia's fall color partly dependent on amount of sun and so forth? Are there any cultivars that really have OUTSTANDING fall color? Or should I just ask for some cuttings from a neighbor with the nice bronze fall coloration? I mean, I kind of hate to pay big bucks for a special cultivar unless the fall color is really something to write home about in this area. I can get cuttings for free, I'm pretty sure!
Thanks in advance for your help! |

| I bought some "Show Off" forsythias this year that surprised me with some outstanding fall color. It was a mixture of purple and yellow that was fluorescent at times. |

| Thanks! I will check into the 'Show Off' and see what it costs and if it's easily available here. I may also still take a cutting - I could probably find room for two if need be! |

| "...surprised me with some outstanding fall color." And all these years I've thought of forsythia as a one-trick pony. |

| But if you have room for it to grow naturally - what a trick it is! The 'Show Off' is a dwarf variety, which means I will be looking for an interesting place to put one of those as well - and I will just root a regular fosythia with a pleasant bronze fall color to fill in a mixed tree and shrub border. |

| I have been surprised with the pale burgundy hues I'm seeing on forsythia this year. I didn't realize they turned that color either. What I'm seeing is yellow fall color with burgundy highlights. |
