Does anyone know if mock orange blooms on new wood or old?

RE: mock orange

Mock orange blooms on the prior year's growth. To insure flowering the next year, prune immediately after it blooms. On stems that have just finished flowering, prune off growth above where you see outer-facing buds. You can also prune off any dead, badly-positioned or ill-formed branches.

Mine has some branches that look dead. They bloomed this year and last. Now, there are new shoots to the right of these dead looking ones. Should I prune the dead looking ones back before winter?

Thanks for any help. I got this one last summer a year ago in 2008.

RE: mock orange

there is never a wrong time to remove dead branches ....

make one cut.. and check to see if there is a green cambian circle just under the bark at the cut ... if so .. they may sprout in spring ... so you might decide to delay additional removal until spring... if they do NOT leaf out.. take them off then ....
