Shrub ID needed

Can anyone help with an is of this bush? The leaves are reminiscent of dogwood or persimmon but are opposite instead of alternate. The berries are dark blue and seem to be dry. It's a thriving shrub near a large creek in my area. I can't remember what the flowers looked like in spring though.

After I've searched a bit more, this could be Silky or Swamp Dogwood. I did not realize that there are shrubs in the dogwood family.

but its vaguely reminiscent of buckthorn ... which is invasive.. in some areas ... see link

Might be Silky dogwood Cornus amomum

Not sure what that has to do with anything but it IS Cornus amomum. The leaf venation is highly characteristic of dogwood in general and the blue berries are characteristic of that species. It is also native to much of the east coast.
