| Hi everyone. I'm trying to save seeds from two Vitex Agnus-Castus trees. The seeds initially formed on the trees in August, and I've been waiting for them to mature and dry out ever since. The seeds themselves have turned brown, but the stems on the seed heads still look green, and the seeds are not coming off easily yet.
When is the best time to harvest them? I've never attempted this before, so I'm not really sure how long to wait. |

| take one off.. and crack it open.. and find out if they are mature .... i have no hands on .. but mature seeds are usually hard... rather than squishy .... waiting for every bit of green to disappear.. has nothing to do with maturity of the seed itself ... i dont know how we can tell you any different ... unless you could post a pic ken |

| The seeds I took off the plant were hard enough that I could barely cut them in half with a knife, so my guess is that they are as ready as they'll ever be. Someone asked me to share the seeds with him, so maybe I'll try to germinate a few first just to make sure. Thanks for the clarification. |

| i would just take a dessert plate ... fold a napkin in quarts .. put a couple seeds inside.. and wet ... and keep it damp ... and just check it in a week or two ... if you fear keeping track of dampness ... stick it in an open plastic bag to keep the humidity up .. google germination time.. and whether any cold treatment is required .. some seeds need to get and stay cold a while to germinate .. good luck and have fun .. ken |
