The only thing that plant can't take, is lack of water and bad drainage.
That is one of the most hardiest shrubs I know, besides spirea.
So, dig up the grass, mulch it real good, and water it really good.
In the heat of the summer, if you don't feel like watering it, take your hose without the sprayer on it and drop it right next to the plant on the mulch, and turn on the hose and walk away for an hour.
It'll be fine.

And you can run over it with a lawn mower and it will come back twice as strong. As noted above, a very hardy plant.

I have some that I swear I have moved 5-6 times and (other than water) virtually ignore and they are doing fine.
