| Every summer (Tampa area) my boxwoods start out well and then get sunburned on the side facing the sun. Then almost all of the leaves fall off that side. They stay mostly bare on that side until spring when the leaves grow back.
I don't want to trim them in the spring because they are growing back, in the summer because they are dying and now it is November and I don't want to trim them because I will trim off the remaining leaves and maybe it will die over the winter. I have finally started fertilizing them and a few new leaves are appearing, but what now? Should I trim them? Thanks! |

| Just by what you post, it reads like it is planted in the wrong spot. If they are scorching and you can't provide shade, what else is there to do but move them? Obviously, the plant is shut down in the heat of the summer because leafing doesn't take place until it cools down. It is similar to roses in my yard. They look like heck in August and just when I'm ready to rip those ugly thorny sticks out of the ground, September comes and growth resumes. Do you see the same boxwoods planted with similar exposure in your neighbors' yards? Also consider reflected heat off nearby structures as causing additional stress. |
