Hello,
I have 3 Blackthorn Bushes growing in my yard. There purpose is NOT to produce sloe gin. I intend to allow them to grow to an appropriate size and then harvest them to make walking sticks and perhaps a shillelagh (a traditional Irish club) to have as a curiosity. The walking sticks will be used by myself and other family members.
Blackthorn walking sticks are a traditional 'thing' in the British Isles, particularly Ireland. The shillelagh is also a deeply Irish artifact I'd like to make.
My question is to ask if any of you know if I should attempt to train them, the bushes, in any way or simply allow them to grow? Also, approximately how long until they reach an appropriate size (I understand that all you can give me is a ball park number)?
Any other pertinent information is welcome.
Thanks & God Bless,
Jeremy
