The most effective rule is "as needed." Water needs slow down as temperatures drop. Whatever time of year, it shouldn't go dry.

Use a finger to check the soil both around AND inside the rootball to ensure proper moisture levels. Soil at the level of the rootball should be kept moist but not wet. The soil's surface should be allowed to begin drying in between waterings. Once the ground freezes, so that you can't check moisture levels, stop worrying about it because you can't water anyway.

Here in Kansas, Extension advises not to plant any evergreens after mid-September. Since they do not go completely dormant, it is very important they become established before the ground freezes. I think you took a big risk doing it in CT in November. So all I can say is good luck, and I hope you get a mild winter or at least enough snow cover to give them some protection.

Just as it would in Kansas, location would make a big difference. Most of Connecticut should be fine for planting evergreens this time of year. Ctniners doesn't provide an exact location or even hardiness zone, so we don't have enough information to know if there is even a possibility of problems regarding deeply frozen ground.
