Sources for seed or seedlings of Seven-Son-Flower shrub?

Preferably bare-root/small pot, or seed to plant myself. My budget for next spring's planting is stretched thin, and I'm willing to plant a smaller seedling and wait an additional year or two if it saves me some cash. Thanks!

I wish I had an answer for you, but I don't... I would like to say, though, that I DO NOT recommend planting them where you're located, as they are only hardy through zone 5. Sorry :-(

Hardy only through zone 5? Someone forgot to tell that to the 8 ft tall specimen in a relatively exposed location at the MN Landscape Arboretum, west of the Minneapolis/St. Paul area.

Not damaged at -29 last winter at work south of the cities. My yard in the city was -25 and my Heptacodium was fine this spring.

I heard of this plant used in zone 4 before, as evident with the MN folks. But it is typically listed as zone 5, sometimes even zone 6. I thought their were some individuals trading seed on this forum just recently?

I've been growing one for about five years with no dieback. It was shredded by a deer after year two, but quickly recovered. The largest I've seen is about a 12'-14' specimen growing on the grounds of a small nursery SE of St Paul.

Bluestone has had them in the past for 6 or 7 dollars a plant.

Bluestone does have them fairly inexpensively! $9 for a 4" potted plant. Thank you! PS: anyone know how easily it is to propagate these? Do they require two to produce seed? Softwood or hardwood cuttings? If I purchase a few, I'd like to propagate them in the future as gift plants to friends, family, the local church, etc. Thanks.

Good question about the need of perhaps two plants to produce seed as mine flowers nicely each year and I have yet to see seeds set on them or have any volunteers show up below the mother plant.
