Yes, use bitter apple with a voice command right when you catch them doing it. It will work and they will still love you more than you love your trees.

I had a young dog that kept chewing on my house--yes, the house. When she was outside on the entry deck to the house, she constantly chewed on the frame of the window. Nothing, including bitter apple worked. Hot sauce finally did.

Thanks, Surya55. We've never had a dog before, so this is all a new experience for us. It's changed everything about our lives. Dh said when we get this dog, he is never going to be allowed on our furniture. That lasted about 3 seconds after we brought him home. Now he lays with us on our furniture, just like any member of our family. The cat is still adjusting to having him around, but I think he's finally realized that Buttercup is here to stay. lol

What a cute pup! Puppies do have the need to chew, so be sure to get some safe chew toys. The people we adopted our last dog from showed me their chewed up table leg, but as an adult he never chewed any of our furniture. So protect your lilac the best you can and possibly he'll grow out of it. I hope your kitty and Buttercup will soon become best friends.
