Winterize Arborvitae : Spring help

Posted by mattyp (My Page) on

Is there anything I should do to winterize my arborvitae? I planted them back in April and this is the first winter they are going to see. Also, come Spring, do I need to fertilize them or just let them be?

thanks!

Matt, where are you? If you don't know the zone, a general location will do. Also, do you have deer problems?
Answers to these questions would really help in replying.

I'm on Long Island. New York. No deer where I am.
I have a single row of 36 arborvitae.

i think LI is z7 .. they need no protection from temps ..

but they might need snow load protection..

but you never answered if they were single leader ... nor what particular cultivar they are ...

If you keep them shaped like the ones in the picture below you will never have to wrap them for snow protection.
