Are we all nuts??

Given that a lot of us who post on the SCM forum are, how shall I put it?, a bit around the bend so to speak, why do we really come here?

Are we looking for some entertainment? Are we poking people with sharp sticks in order to get reactions that provide us with some kind of perverse satisfaction? After all we really couldn't (or shouldn't) do this to our spouses or other family members. (Or maybe some of us do, don't know)

I know for some reason I am compelled to return to the forum and quite a few times I have typed up responses only to delete them before posting. Some have slipped through the firewall of my better judgment and would have worded differently or not at all given a sober second thought.

Sure, the true compost discussion is fun and at times informative, but really, how many thousands of posts can there really be about compost? I know, it is heresy to speak of compost in such a cavalier manner and I shall immediately go forth and punish myself, but really, are we nuts?

Lloyd

Winter's mostly boring to gardeners, and the forum is full of funny, snarky posters.

I've learned a lot from this forum, but to answer your question, yes we are all nuts. At least I know I am.

RE: Are we all nuts??

Only speaking for myself, of course, but I've always been a little around the bend but have gone even further around since discovering the SCM forum. While I try not to spend too much time here and have many other forums to visit (as well as the occasional thing to do IRL), this one just draws me. Partly cause I love compost but also cause I'm always intrigued to see what other people think and do. I'm a confirmed people watcher and am always amazed at human nature.

I've learned a lot from many of you and probably won't be able to stay away for long even tho I now know everything there is to know about compost. haha

RE: Are we all nuts??

I come to this forum to learn and I did and do learn a lot about composting and other related stuff. However, there are a lot of fun people on this site which make visiting this site so addictive. You know, not those professor types. But we need those people in this forum too; otherwise we don't have people to poke at.

So, all in all, everybody is welcome, the more the merrier.

I got about 2000 sq ft of extra space with my new business rental, so I'm trying to learn about vermicomposting.

Q: Are we all nuts?

A: Yes.

Q: Why do we really come here?

A: Because we can.

Q: Are we looking for some entertainment?

A: Yes.

I'm only allowed to answer 3 questions at any given time so that's all I can do for now. (grin)

I've been to the dark side and will be again,
when I can laugh,... I will!
There is no malice and no awkward stares here.
so i feel safe to just be silly again.
To answer your Q....Are we all nuts?
can't speak for everyone. but.

I know I am.

And we aren't the only ones...

A local service station in town keeps a stash of my compost for people to take and leave a donation to our local Palliative Care organization if they so desire. A lady stopped by with her wheel barrow, dropped of a cheque for a hundred bucks and said she would be back several times. I don't know how far away she lived, but you have to love an elderly lady pushing a wheel barrow full of compost down the street!

Sometimes people surprise me (in a good way).

I think it's mostly about feeling a part of a community even if it's a virtual community.

RE: Are we all nuts??

I just read the 'know it all neighbor' and 'how to build a people repelling compost pile' threads. Is Pudgy from Texas still around? Will check out the rose forum and alfalfa teas later. my hats off to all you nuts out there-
I am realizing my clay soil is not the scariest thing around anymore!
