Spring! Where are you?

| I will be so glad when spring gets here or anything that resembles spring would be fine too. Jan. and Feb. is always my worst time of year. Those 2 months just seem to drag by.
I've got tons of things I should be doing inside the house but I don't even have the get-up-and-go to get going.
I NEED to paint my dining room but it just seems to gloomy to do it. Painting with artificial light just doesn't seem to cut it.
I NEED to replace my electrical receptacles but I just don't feel like it.
I NEED to take the dog for more walks but it's to freakin' cold out.
I NEED to finish the basement but I'm down to the boring little stuff and I HATE that. You can work all day on the little stuff and no can even notice you've done anything.
Blah...blah...blah. Did I mention I hate winter?

| It ain't here, that's for sure. The one thing I like about January is that the days actually start to get longer. What color will you paint your dining room? I am thinking of painting the one wall in the all-white family room that I can reach without a scaffold, but the color needs to be interesting. Hmmm... Hope it's ok to join in here ... why is this called a Gallery, I wonder? Is it the peanut gallery? |

| One thing that I do in Jan and February - is go to a tanning booth. I use the low settings and stay in it for about 8 minutes - not long enough to get a tan, but I find it gives me the kick in the pants that I sometimes need to get moving on the cold short days. I highly recommend it. I enjoy winter, I like snow, I like cold, I just don't like the lack of sunlight. |

| AJ - I think the dinning room is going to be cream and pale yellow. We don't have good light in there so I want something to help brighten it a bit. I think the "Peanut Gallery" is an excellent idea! Bravo! Ahhh....Joe - One of these days when I don't have the kid anymore, I'm going to devote some of our well earned money to ME! A little tan now and then sounds wonderful. Or staying up late and not having to drive to school the next day sounds good too. Or...never mind. I enjoy winter, I like snow, I like cold I'm going to pretend you didn't say this :-) Val |

| Val, I'm going to try winter sowing this year to pass the time and try to make it to spring. This time of year is always hard for me too. Well, I should say I'm going to attempt to try winter sowing.. if work will get off my back and stop trying to kill me. |

| Gerri - I don't know a thing about winter sowing. I've heard it mentioned a few times. Is it sowing seeds indoors with a grow light? I used to not like summer that much and preferred the cooler seasons but as I get older I just never seem to be warm...ever! My favorite season is late spring/early summer. The days are warm enough to work outside yet the nights are cool so that you can open a window - but I digress. So tell me about winter sowing. Val |

| Winter sowing is sowing seeds outdoors in the winter. Ther is a whole forum on it and an entire web site. I've actually met Trudi, live and in person, the queen of wintersowing. |

| Well! no wonder you got the flu if you were outside this winter sowing seeds. See how dumb I am to think it was growing stuff inside? So you guys really grow veggies by throwing down the seeds in winter?! This is mind blowing. Val |

I painted my dining room two shades of yellow a while back -- I love it! This year I want to paint the garage -- it's not even primed, can you beleive it? I don't know what kind of paint to use, will regular indoor latex be ok? Not to mention what color ... |

| Hmmm...paint the garage. Are you talking about inside or outside? If outside - I would definitely use outdoor paint. It stands up to the elements so much better. The indoor stuff is cheaper but you will be repainting it again much sooner so really in the long run it's not cheaper. I've never painted the inside of a garage before. I would imagine interior paint would work fine for that. Val |

The inside of the garage. What a bore to paint, honestly. Maybe I can convince hubby it's an opportunity for the kids to practice their art skills and just have them paint art right on it! We could do a mural for a summer art project! Can you tell that winter is boring me? |

| I want to paint the inside of my garage too. I'm planning to paint it white (or some shade of off white). The walls are cement blocks, so they'll need some type of special cement sealing paint. I have a great local paint shop who will point me in the right direction on what type of paint to buy. Instead of buying paint at the local big box hardware store, I buy it at a real paint store, with employees who actually know about paint... you can rely on their expertise for suggestions for not only what type, but what color. I'd probably do an off-white or really light beige for the garage. If you do use interior paint - use a high gloss or semi-gloss - something that will wash down easily. |

| You guys must have way nicer garages than I do. All my garages have just been studs...well...except for the firewall. Even if I had drywall up I'm not sure I could justify the cost to paint it. Not unless I also had a game room in there or something. You guys are just too uptown for me. Val |
RE: Spring! Where are you?

| The main reason I want to paint the garage is because the concrete blocks are gray and its really dark and dingy in there. I think if I painted them, it would brighten it up considerably and it would be less dusty. My garage isn't nice, but I would like to make it nicer...less dusty and less dark. |

I'm in a development, and one of the houses on our block painted the inside of their garage blue. Then my next door neighbor (our garages open facing each) painted her garage yellow. They use it when they have family parties as extra "hanging-out" space. It's so nice that I have garage envy. Our garage is pretty messy right now. I figure if it's painted I'll be more motivated to keep it neat. |

| Well, you guys are way more motivated than I am. Of course if I actually could use my garage I'd probably feel differently. Hubby has his toy (64 Vet) parked in there along with all the other stuff that won't fit into the shed. You'd think with a 2 car garage we'd actually be able to park one of our cars (that we use) in there! Val |
