Anyone been there? We're thinking of going there for vacation in June. It looks like a fun place. If you haven't been there, got any other good vaca spots you're willing to share?

What do you like to do on vacation? hike, fish, swim, etc?

I spend a lot of time in Cassville, WI in the summer. But I am an avid fisherperson.... so I do a lot of fishing there.

But there is some great places to go hiking and the town has a nice little municipal pool, if you're not brave enough to swim in the Mississippi River.

Well...we have the kiddy to think about too so we usually do "family" things. We usually pick a spot and then I send away for brochures and then everyone gets to pick at least one thing they'd like to do there.

Last year we went to Tenn. Hubby picked white water rafting, which was funny because we'd never been before, he can't swim and the guide drove us into a rock which flipped hubby out of the boat. Thank god for shallow streams and life vests! But he wasn't hurt and we still had a good time. We were thinking of Hershey because of the chocolate tour threw the factory plus they have an amusement park right there and a zoo. I dunno. Sounds fun to us.

One of these days when the grandkid goes off, we plan on taking some more "adult" vaca's. We went to New Orleans once and Niagra Falls once. We've been to the Dells 3 times. If only we'd know what you guys call us! LOL

We've been to Hershey a couple of times -- it's just 2 hour drive from us. It is fun.
There is also a garden, you know... I think we went once, that was nice.
Oh, how old is the kid? There's usually a coupon that comes out that will give a discount on Hershey Park & Dutch Wonderland (a park for younger kids in Lancaster PA)
Hotels near Hershey are $$$ when the park is open. If you have money to burn I think Hershey hotel is supposed to have a spa with shocolate wraps & stuff (lol). Or you could probably save money by staying somewhere between Hershey & Lancaster, specially if you decide to take a day to do the check-out-the-Amish thing. If you like shopping old-fashioned stuff (crafts, woodwork, jams, food, etc) it's so great.

Hey AJ - good info. I didn't know about the garden, I'll have to check that out. It might become MY pick.

The kid is a female grandchild we're raising. She's 14 going on 20 (or so she thinks). I saw the Dutch Wonderland but haven't done enough research on it yet.

I hear what your saying about staying right near a place, usually BIG bucks. The only time that didn't hold true for us was when we went to New Orleans (we were kid free then). We initially opted for a hotel outside the city but when we got there it was a DUMP. The next day we checked into one right in the French Quarter and it was cheaper and loads nicer.

I didn't know about the Amish thing either. I mean I know they are there but I didn't know there was like a spot you could see all the crafts, woodwork and stuff like that. I might have to insist on 2 picks for me LOL

Thanks for the heads up.

Does your granddaughter like history? Gettysburgh is in the general area of Hershey. I think it's pretty close to the Finger Lakes, too.

How about Starved Rock? It's really beautiful and pretty close to home.
