| If I mixed ash with clay cat litter, 2/3 ash to 1/3 litter would the caustic ash cleanse the litter? Like when water goes over the ash to make lye? Just curious.
Its what I used to do and still don't know what to do with the pile of ash litter. Actually the cats are now successful using wood pellets as litter that I then dump in my newly built composter for just this purpose that the finished product goes on non edible plants. |

| No, it would not "clean" the litter. You just have a mess of ashes and used kitty litter. If you need to reduce the pH in your garden, add a layer of the litter/ash and mix it in. Any pathogens in the kitty litter are long-dead. |

| It was said: "If you need to reduce the pH in your garden, add a layer of the litter/ash and mix it in. " Oops! That's backwards. Ash increases pH. |
