| Some napkins, dryer lint, eggshells, wooden matches, coffee grounds, mushroom stems, green onion tops and the gunk I wiped off the counter tops. NT |
| Assorted shredded paper, coffee grounds, tangerine rinds, strawberry stems and leaves, soggy cardboard, labels soaked off jars and bottles, and a dash of body wash for sensitive skin that irritates my sensitive skin. Claire |
| Compostable take out boxes Shredded paper UCG Assorted kitchen scraps More of my neighbor's leaves that blow over with every storm. We had a thaw today, so I did a little turning/aerating while I was at it. Had a few pumpkin sprouts in there! |
| Some mouse manure plus what might have been mouse-generated paper bedding: I needed to do some sewing repairs so I went into a drawer that's seldom opened (I really dislike doing sewing repairs). A mouse or mice had rearranged the sewing materials and left a whole lot of little feces in there. I wasn't sure whether mouse manure needs to be composted before adding to soil but I decided to play it safe. Claire |

| Got about 5 kilos of carrot mash from my favorite cafe's juicer onto the regular pile of UCG, kitchen scraps and various leaves after the huge storm we had. Raked most of the euc leaves (my major trees) and dumped them in the box pile under the ironwood tree, where they will hopefully break down and lose their allelopathic-ness. The regular pile is really full, and I'm trying to think of something to do with a hole full of half done compost, like maybe make a new garden? Maybe after the rain stops....... |

| Here are 2 messages that were just posted on last month's thread: Posted by compogardenermn 4 (My Page) on Mon, Jan 10, 11 at 12:49 I'll post what I added in December: Posted by nancyjeanmc (My Page) on Mon, Jan 10, 11 at 19:35 Do I have the best DH in the world, or what ... He cleaned up the lunch room at work, which was filled with fruit baskets from clients. Fruit that no one took home over Christmas. Fruit that made my compost pile give me a big smile, today. |
| Tuesday mine gobbled up 6 inches of new snow even with 20 degree temps outside... Everything is white but the piles turned right back to black. 50 degrees this Saturday predicted... time to get some Oxygen turned into the piles...should be the last heat. As fast as I can get to it now it needs to go thru the screener.. |
| Discovered that I hadn't completely finished off Christmas dinner leftovers. There were some interesting containers of stuff in the back of the fridge.... Brussel sprouts, carrots, and a big container of eggplant caponata. Xmas compost. In my defense, I was out of town for about 10 days after xmas. Can't wait for my summer veggies which will be growing out of my Christmas dinner. Super cool. |

| Today I 'borrowed' a heap of leaves from around the street. About 15 kilos of UCG from two cafes that are in Ground to Ground. Lawn Clippings. Food scraps (from my attempt to cook pasta yesterday). |

| The mouse that my cats left for me to find this morning, after they had played it to death. Neither of them recognized it as a potential edible. I hope it's broken down before I turn the pile this spring. Yeeesh. |
| Fried chicken skin and bones, potato peelings, egg shells, fried Catfish bones, hush puppies, left over pinto beans, left over potatoes, moldy bread, donuts left from church, and misc kitchen scraps. |
| banana peels, coffee grounds, egg shells, left over baked potatoes, lemon rinds, used paper towels. If I'd just cook more, I'd have more good stuff. LOL Oh! and leaves DH retrieved from the neighbors--he won't rake, just mulches w/ the mower. |

| Sylvia, I'm more puzzled about why my dog wouldn't drink from a dirty water bowl, (he'd sit and stare at it), but any puddle in a parking lot was like the best treat ever! Nancy |
| Blew a path through the snow and added 2 gallons of kitchen scraps with some old bills mixed in and a lot of apple cores from a dehydrating project. All the home brewed coffee grounds saved for almost a month went out too. I covered the mess with a foot of snow for insulation. I wish now that I had probed the pile for temperature?:/ Curt |

| "my dog wouldn't drink from a dirty water bowl, (he'd sit and stare at it), but any puddle in a parking lot was like the best treat ever! " Ain't that the truth??? Maybe dogs realize that they shouldn't drink their own slime, since it could contain pathogens to which they're susceptible, while a little of what my grandmother called "good clean dirt" probably has some healthy minerals.... wait a minute, was I talking about dogs' water dishes, or was I talking about composting??? |

| Who needs books, magazines, and newspapers when we can read these wonderfully entertaining and funny threads. There was even a little implied sex by compostnerd. Do you really want us to know your condoms sit around so long they expire? Maybe you need to walk away from your compost pile for a Saturday night date occasionally. Hahaha. Truly this is fun reading and comforting to know what I put in my compost pile is common and on track. Fun reading, thanks all. |

| Love this thread! was happy to find the newest posts. Every time I look outside at the bleak, cold yard and my pile seems miles away, I can come here and get excited about the whole process all over again. In mine, yesterday, were napkins, orange peels, potato peels, a putrid tomato, tea bags, banana peel, and some spent marigold plants I dug out of the snow. Frozen solid right now, but hope to see a thaw soon. Kim |
| Stood in front of my pile tearing up soggy cardboard boxes and thought about why I have been given an 18 yr old son that constantly reminds me that he's 18..... celery stalks... clementine rinds... christmas garland.... lemon wedges... mowed up debris from one of the front yard beds.... peanut shells.... strawberry tops.... cantalope rinds.... pineapple husks..... and a lot of thought.........as in I put a lot of thought into how I'm gonna heat my piles up and like most everything else in life you just gotta be patient....it will happen....hope eveyone in the midwest stays warm whilst they wait out the latest snow storm.....JB |

| It's starting right now! I'm in NW Indiana, and we're expected to get 22 inches by tomorrow. Gotta love Indiana... I made it out to the pile before it started, but can't seem to find anyone willing to pee on the post for me to keep it warm. hm. Kim |
