Which Veggies Grow in Standing Water?

From a little internet research, it looks like Broccoli, Cauliflower, Brussel Sprouts and Kale do well in poorly drained areas. I have a about a 2,000 sq ft garden on a slope, and the bottom holds standing water after heavy rains and irrigation. Instead of hard work to change the drainage and soil, I just wanted to take advantage of it.

Has anyone tried this and what were the results? Are there other vegetables I could try there too?

I am fairly sure asparagus will not thrive there. Watercress must have standing water, but when the water recedes, it dies. You only need a dry August to lose it. Celery is a bog plant and the one vegetable that is best suited for that spot, but if you build a bed with 8 inches of soil above water, then a whole lot of plants will do well there.

Asparagus absolutely requires good drainage. So do most other veggies, so any area that suffers through standing water or waterlogged soil for any length of time is going to seriously limit your choices. Glib has a great suggestion - construct a raised bed and then grow just about anything you want.

Rice is a possibility, although not technically a veggie :-)
