Adding dried seaweed to the compost pile

I picked up some seaweed at the beach the other day and was wondering what to expect once it was added to my compost.

It’s a brown right?

Most of its dried from the sun and there is no smell to it. I washed out most of the sand. Then filled the buckets with fresh water and left them that way over night. This morning I added them to my compost pile.

No, it's a green and there's no need to wash it, rinse it, shake it or dry it. Although, I gotta admit, I got the joy sucked right out of me this year regarding seaweed, when it was pointed out to me that harvesting seaweed has an impact on the shoreline, which seems minor, but isn't. I'm having a hard time talking myself out of harvesting it myself, but I'm aware at the very least---and that's where it always starts for me.
