haiku time again

The rules for haiku

Five syllables, then seven

Last line five again.

The first day of spring

Four coffee shops on the way

And bunny poop too!

Dig into the pile

Add smelly liquid onion

Ah! The worms will dance.

The banana peels

From my neighbor's March breakfast:

Tomatoes in June

Dryer lint, slime, mold,

It all goes into the pile

Where it is transformed

Dreaming my garden

into existence, with worms

my partners and friends

Inspiration strikes

Wackos resurface, awake

Time to compost words.

    Haiku as compost?
    Can words nourish the garden?
    Only time will tell.

  • donn_

    Peeing on the pile,
    May not be appropriate,
    Unless it's unseen.

    A little alliteration helps haiku.

    Japanese Haiku
    Floats in on butterfly wings.
    Tree leaves simply rot.

    Why rot your OM?
    Because gardens will love it.
    What better reason?

    Punctuation counts!
    Haiku requires it as well.
    Mind your P's and Q's.

    Sitting here at work
I am bored out of my mind
    Can I go home yet?

    Lots of leaves in back
Need grass clippings to add now
    Have to wait 'til spring

    Love football season
    Patriots play tomorrow
    Maybe a 4th ring?

    My dog just farted
It is stinking up the room
    She just walks away

    Cat killed a big rat
    Hope she doesn't get rabies
    Should I compost it?

    winter garden waits and hopes.
    Spread it anyway.

    Compost the big rat,
    Or the maybe rabid cat?
    You must decide that.

    Humanure Handbook tells us
    Compost the virus.

    I who usually only lurk,
    Taking study break.

    Tons of leaves on curb.
    Garbage pickup tomorrow.
    Sigh, two tests as well.

    Two more weeks to go.
Will there be any leaves left?
    Compost for Christmas.

    Daybreak: Pouring rain
soaks the piles of horse manure
    added yesterday.

    One more wheelbarrow!
    Pile high cloud-fluffy manure.
    Watch it sink by spring.

    Veganic garden
with horse manure? It was free
    and it's organic.

    Birds have nipped the peas,
    left broccoli leaves for me,
    my favorite green snack.

    Kales keep producing.
I could eat some ev'ry day,
    summer and winter.

    Tomatoes long gone.
    Two more buttercup squashes
    hanging on the vine.

    Procrastination:
    ignore deadlines, write haiku,
    plan the spring garden.

    Compost spread on beds,
    The garden burps with pleasure.
    Now to sleep 'til spring.

    Worry about worms.
    Suddenly may be evil,
    or just not PC.

    It's raining again,
    Dammit isn't this winter?
    When will the snow start?

    Fingers getting sore.
Hard to count five and seven.
    Maybe take socks off.

  • donn_

    Don't want no snow here.
Lows in the 40's is fine.
    Make my winter mild.

    Winter Sowing starts,
    The Solstice is next Thursday.
    40's cold enough.

    Got seeds, soil and flats.
    Covering the coldframe soon.
    Many new seedlings.

    What do you mean, Claire?
Do you wear socks on fingers?
    Socks make fingers sore?

    It comes from thin air.

    Unseasonal warmth,
birds splashing in my bird bath.
    Last bath until spring?

    Met with gutter guy,
need to get leaves out of spout.
    Soon will be leaf mold.

    Concerning gutters:
    Maybe combine with compost?
    Direct drop to pile?

  • diggerdee zone 6 CT

    Never thought I'd hear
    "gutter guy" in poetry!
    Hmm, that's just not right!

    (LOL!)

    I now have leaf-guard.
I don't really like it, though.
    Big icicles form.

    I'm talking BIG ones.
Like five- or six-feet long ones.
    They drip in the sun.

    Water pools on ground.
    Goes into leaky basement.
    I just don't need that!

    But, before leaf-guard
    I would clean up gutter-stuff
    and put in compost.

    :)
    Dee

    Too late for leaf guard,
    need to retrofit as is.
    G-guy will advise.

    Hard to write poem
when mind is in the gutter.
    Maybe don't go there.

    Asphalt in compost?
And what will they think of next?
    Steel reinforcement?

to move wood chips down the street.
    then got gutters cleaned.

    Free chips from up street,
stored in pile across the road,
    passed on to neighbor.

It may be winter in some places, but here in So. CA many of the fall leaves are still hanging on the trees. My sis wrote this one:

    Afternoon raking
    Orange, red, yellow and dead
    Each leaf a story

We put a haiku on our mothers grave marker:

    A rose and an owl
And your loving care for us
    Remain in our hearts

I've truly enjoyed everyone's creative writing here and wish you all a happy holiday season and good year ahead.
