| I don't know why some of my soil I started seedlings with got mold. I was going to throw it out, but my husband told me to throw it to the compost bin. The mold is actually helping the compost bin getting composted quicker. I understand the theory of what he said, but I am not sure if the mold from the soil is the same or not harmful to the compost pile.

| .. The mold got there because it was already present just like all those other happy microbes in the compost bin. When I get mold, I just figure I made the conditions right for it grow - typically I'll over water. The mold is just another occupant in your compost bin. I don't know that I'd throw oodles of soil in the bin. Some people like throw some in because it brings the soil microbes into the bin but I don't bother. I figure there's enough on the wind. So, it won't hurt. I just don't know if it will do much for your compost. Your milage may vary. two cents |
