Are there any private composting services in the DC metro area?

I live in fairfax county and I'm doing research on composting facilities. As far as I know, there are no specific county facilities that is intended for composting organic waste. However, I researched that Yale sends all of its dining hall wastes to a place called New Milford farms, where they compost it and sell the subsequent compost at home depot or lowe's. I was wondering if such a company exists in Northern VA or anywhere in the DC metro area

Hi takadi, I am wondering: do you mean you are looking for private composting facilities where you can purchase the compost knowing that it is made only of organic materials?
I don't have a specific answer in your area, but in our area on Cape Cod, there are some local organic farms that sell plants and veggies and also sell organic compost. You might check them out. I do know that there's a Community Sponsored Agriculture Farm just outside of Vienna, VA, on the Leesburg Pike that might have some leads for you.

I'm doing research to see how my university can compost its massive amounts of dining hall waste. Since my county doesn't have a composting facility, I was wondering if there were any private facilities or services around the area that does large scale composting.

Takadi, I get it; you want to find a facility to compost dining hall waste--I certainly understand this desire and I feel the same way about restaurant "throw-away" food. There's SO MUCH of it that could be composted rather than being trashed into landfill. It boggles my mind. I always take home a doggy-bag of uneaten food, which my doggies should only be so lucky to get.
I think they do a better job of this in Japan, where Bokashi is practiced.
I wish I could suggest some places in your area, but I don't even know any in my part of the world (Cape Cod.) But it seems like an idea whose time has come.
As a former reference librarian; have you called one of the excellent libraries in your part of the world with this question?

Takadi,

Great question! EnviRelation provides exactly what you are looking for. In fact, we already work with University of Maryland and all of Alexandria City Public Schools in an effort to help them compost as much food waste as possible. Please visit our website for more information at www.EnviRelation.com.
