I've been told by CLC labs Col,OH (a soil testing lab) that one thing I need to add to my plants is chelated manganese. I have been to Straders garden supply and Oakland nursery, two big garden stores in Col,Oh.,as well as on the internet but unfortunately I had no luck finding anything but the kind of chelated manganese for human consumption. My garden is 20 sq. ft. Planted with roses(2) and perennials (the rest). I'd like to have the kind of chelated manganese that is sprayed on the plants leaves in the smallest available quantity considering my small garden. Can any body help? Thank You.

Lily Miller makes a spray I found that is not called chelated manganese spray, but an iron spray which has chelated manganese. I was able to find a pdf online which had the ingredients list and it has .10 chelated manganese. But, I can't find any that are just chelated manganese that are plant sprays. Here is the link to the label which will hopefully work http://www.lillymiller.com/labels/LillyMiller/09602020.pdf

Manganese is a micro nutrient that is essential in plants for multiple reasons and mostly it appears as a defiency when the soil ph is high or Iron or Zinc are not in balance, or the soil is water logged. Spraying chelated Iron may exacerbate the problem if Iron deficiency is not also present. Do you plants show signs of a Manganese deficiency? i've not seen Manganese deficiencies in plants growing in soils well endowed with organic matter.

That was the only spray possibility. It would be possible to buy Manganese for human consummation and grind it up and to the compost bin. The problem with adding minerals to the soil, if there is not organic matter the plants can't use them. I guess this is why they suggest a spray to bypass the soil.

>>for human consummation Great typo! I'm not touching that with a ten foot garden rake. :-p +1 on what kimmsr posted - there is a difference between lab test results showing something is low, vs. plants actually showing symptoms. And it sounds like manganese is part of a more complex web of other nutrients as well as pH, which should all be considered together.

If you Google manganese chelate, you'll find some products - though most that I saw are only available in commercial sized quantity. Manganese sulfate is soluble and relatively inexpensive. As a foliar, wouldn't it work as well as the chelated form?
