Compost of not?

Can I put steel cut oats right into my garden soil? I found an expired container in the back of my cabinet an would like to just till it right into the soil.

Certainly you can. Almost anything you can eat can be composted. Things high in fats are difficult for the bacteria to digest and so are not recommended for the average composter.
