I stumbled upon this site on how to make a BSFL harvester. If you click on the link and scroll down you can read TONS of info on BSFL and their comparison to red worms. Lots of good info here. Forgive me if you guys know about this but I thought it would be good considering the detailed information on the two different organism's or whatever they are..hehehe

I did not know there are two different types of earthworms. One that lives in decaying organic matter and is suitable for worm bins and composting piles (not soil) called "epigeic" and one that is solitary and lives mostly in the soil called "anecic"

The Black Soldier Fly, like many other insects needs a fairly moist environment for the larva to hatch and grow, usually too moist for proper composting. Some think they are beneficial while others think they are not. This link says they are present in poorly managed compost piles.

Lol. So should I post a link to show the opposite?? Ive read ALOT of post in regards to your information and Ill say that the majority of all of them are not in your favor.

I didnt start this thread as a "what is good or isnt good for a compost pile". Its for info in BSFL. So please dont start

I will agree with you that a "moist" or over wet pile attracts certain bugs but I would not say that all of them are non-beneficial.

'Twas the people at North Carolina State University that said the presence of BSF indicated a poorly managed compost pile, not me. I also know that there are some that do think otherwise. Texas A & M promotes using the BSF larva to help eliminate manure piles, and note the "eliminate" part of that.
How many people know the difference between BSF larva and House Fly larva?

There's a big thread over in the vermicomposting section

Now when you say "vermi" composting is that a play on the word "worm" as in "wormy"? wormycompsoting?

So its just a "cutesy" way of saying worm? As in "Awww look at all the cute little "vermi's"...?
